GROCERY PICKUP MYSTERY SHOP

NOTE: The Pickup program is being redeveloped this year to prepare it for a more central role in the program in the future. To accommodate that, Pickup shops will be paused in most markets for the remainder of the year. Select markets in OH, KY, and TX will have Pickup shops posted June-Nov 2025, and all areas are expected to return at full strength starting in February 2026.

Assignment Overview
Place an online order and pick it up at the assigned store to make anonymous observations of timing, freshness, bagging protocol, and customer service to ensure standards are being met. Review your shop confirmation for the store and address to visit. Purchase at least 8 different items totaling $25 or more, and upload a copy of a receipt showing the final total paid after substitutions and out of stocks.

PICKUP PROGRAM FAQ

  1. A shopper may perform 1 pickup shop per location per period.
  2. You may only self-assign 1 pickup shop per day for stores of the same name. This is to protect you from being identified as a mystery shopper if the store notes more than one of their locations in the area is receiving pickup orders from the same person for the same date.
  3. A shopper may perform up to 8 pickup shops total per period.
  4. If you can’t self-assign, and the above rules have not been maximized, try changing the date you can perform the shop.
  5. Pickup shops may not be self-assigned on the same date as a Store shop at locations that offer both for protection of your anonymity as a mystery shopper. If you are interested in this shop combo due to traveling a distance out of area, please contact your scheduler.
  6. Pickup shops at the same location must be spaced apart by 3 days, per the client (regardless of who performed or is scheduled for any of the shops).
  7. You must place the order no later than 4pm to try for same-day pickup, otherwise your order will be ready when the store has open pickup times the next day
  8. Please choose a Backup item for each grocery product you order before you place your Pickup order. This will ensure you receive a product of your choice even if a substitution is necessary, and it will help the company track how well Pickup teams are honoring backup item requests.
  9. Canceling too many shops may jeopardize your ability to perform shops for us.
  10. Pickup shops are $25 reimbursement for groceries + reimbursement for the pickup fee.
  11. If substitutions make your order come out to less than $25, you can still safely submit your report and will be compensated.
  12. When emailing your scheduler, always include the Assignment ID# for each shop, and what you want the scheduler to do.
  13. Review all shop guidelines by clicking the link above. Fill out the report online. A PDF of the guidelines is available as a courtesy so you can print it out, if needed.
  14. EBT Cards: Kroger accepts EBT as a form of payment on Pick up shops. Cash, credit, debit, EBT, and gift cards are okay to use.
  15. Do not leave any identifying papers or receipts in your vehicle where a Kroger associate could see these items and possibly identify you as a mystery shopper.
  16. Do not write down any notes or enter notes on your phone/tablet while the Kroger associate is anywhere near your vehicle. We don’t want them to see you doing this and identify you as a shopper.
